typing this on my laptop as i get a pedicure. i’ve had such an eventful past couple of days, and i felt like recapping in my downtime :-)

monday night, to kick off my work week’s friday, i went to redveil’s listening party at damballa. when i showed the bouncer my california ID, he wouldn’t let me in because it didn’t “feel” real. lol. i copped suuuch an attitude. i’m 26 years old!! i called veil’s manager, rayan, to come get me and when he did, the bouncer told him that he had to grab somebody from inside the party who also had a cali ID. so he could compare the way they feel. no technology is being used in this process, btw, just this silly bouncer’s sense of touch. lol. anyways, rayan comes back out with glenthesaiyan and ovrkast who are from sacramento and oakland, respectively, and i’m let in. the album was amazing and i cried seeing veil present ‘buzzerbeater / black christmas’ and ‘glimpse of you’. i smoked a cigarette with glen, took my ass home, and gave myself a spa treatment——complete with full body exfoliation, shaving my legs, steaming my face, using a nose strip.

tuesday morning i got up early to grab breakfast with lindsay, my label’s new general manager. then i got my lashes done for the first time since moving to new york. i was my bestie alanah’s longest client before moving here. she’s also just the best in the world at what she does, so i was never motivated to try someone new. but it was time to feel like a baddie again. mission accomplished! then i had a session with my boys kurt & gabe. i had been writing a rap to this beat they sent over the holiday break, so it was nice to record it and have it sound exactly as i’d imagined it would. i sent it to samara cyn to see if she’d wanna put a verse on it, hehehe. then i went to the earl sweatshirt show and saw performances by my teenhood friend cletus strap (his mother’s garage was the first, like, “real” studio i’d ever recorded in!), pigthegemini (whose dj was 454!), zelooperz (who i met during my brain dead fairfax era——i’ve worked at brain dead silverlake and brain dead new york since then), Liv.e (a legend of the genre! we did afropunk atl the same year), and (of course) pioneer, icon, and hometown hero earl sweatshirt. then i went to the afterparty and got to hang out with friends from home——mariah (who was the sweetheart who put me on her list), cletus, and karmel stevens (who i went to elementary and middle school with and hadn’t seen in over a decade!) it was an awesome night. i saw dijon at the afters and was too damn pussy to say hello and thank you. smh.

yesterday, because i went to bed so late, i slept in. then the plumber came to fix my hot water. i’d been bugging them about it for over a week. i refuse to live without amenities, glory to God. then i took my friend ziora to the whitney museum and then dinner at catch! we had the yummiestttt pornstar martinis! then she had a lychee one and i had an espresso one. it was such a sweet and fun new york evening. the whitney was also extremely inspiring! we only got to look at the surrealism exhibition, but it was more than enough to tickle my brain. that’s all i really needed.

now i’m at the nail shop, getting a light blue cat eye pedicure. ideally i’ll get a full set on my hands, too, but my barre class starts at noon and i don’t want to cut it too close. i have a session with kurt and gabe at 2. my friend walt mansa (producer of my smash hit telly!) is in town, so he’ll be joining us. yayy. i return to work tomorrow. i love making the most of my weekend.

okay, back home from the studio. i took a piping hot shower, now i’m steaming my face.

i was able to get through soaking off my short & grown tf out gel-x (i hate short nails rn idk why i got that dull ass set) and applying/shaping/filing my long acrylic nails before leaving in the middle to go to barre and returning after a painful class. when i came back to the nail shop, i got a mood changing polish that is slate grey when i’m cold & baby pink when i’m warm. then i went to the studio and we made an excellent song! xoxo
